DEEP DIVE

In-depth project notes

Bu yaklaşım metal kaplamaya özel değildir; süreç verisi üreten her endüstriyel hatta — boya, kaynak, ısıl işlem, plastik enjeksiyon, gıda işleme — aynı disiplinle uygulanabilir.

This metal plating process optimisation project — grounded in academic data-mining methods and an Industry 5.0 perspective — uses process parameter data to explain and measurably reduce defect rates on a plating line. Collecting production data is not enough on its own; that data has to be cleaned, analysed and translated into operational recommendations. AIOR delivers all three stages on a single data pipeline.

Explaining defects, not just predicting them

The defect rate on a metal plating line is a joint effect of dozens of parameters: temperature, current density, solution pH, plating time, input quality and more. A simple "this many defects happened in this shift" report is therefore not enough to act on; the team's real need is for a data-driven, explainable view of which parameters are correlated with defects. Classical table-and-graph reports usually cannot capture that relationship, and side effects invisible to the operator's eye — such as triggers caused by two parameters drifting together — never appear in those reports at all. Without data-driven analysis, sustainable defect reduction is not realistic.

The AIOR data-mining and reporting discipline

The AIOR team runs the project in three layers: data collection and cleaning, defect-cause mining, and operational recommendation reporting. Process data from on-line sensors and PLC/SCADA logs is first synchronised; missing, inconsistent or out-of-calibration records are cleaned. Defect-positive batches are then compared against defect-free batches using data-mining techniques to extract which parameters, at which thresholds, materially raise defect probability. Finally, those findings are translated into an operational recommendation and reporting dashboard: the panel shows what each setting should be at the start of a shift, and which parameter has been wandering through risky ranges during which shift.

Defect drivers explained with data, defect rate reduced

This work defines an analysis layer that exposes relationships between defect records and process parameters and turns corrective actions into measurable hypotheses. Correlation alone is not treated as proof of causation; the effect of a proposed setting change is verified through controlled production trials and shift-level before-and-after data. Dashboard distributions help quality, planning and engineering teams evaluate the same body of evidence.

This approach is not specific to metal plating — it applies with the same discipline to any industrial line that emits process data: paint, welding, heat treatment, plastic injection, food processing. RESULTS

Outcome and impact

Relationships between process parameters and defect records were reported; the effect of setting changes must be verified with controlled before-and-after production data.
