Why does backup matter?
Data loss can result from hardware failure, ransomware, user error or physical events. The 3-2-1 approach recommends three copies on two media with one copy off-site. An AIOR Backup server contributes to the relevant part of that design only when a location and medium separate from production are selected.
Storage vs HCI — which one?
**STOR (Storage Optimized):** HDD-oriented options listed from 192-864 TB in the catalogue. They may fit cold storage, video archives and server images; usable capacity, RAID overhead, rebuild time and actual cost per TB are calculated after validating the disk layout.
**HCI (Hyper-Converged Infrastructure):** The listed all-flash options use 12 or 24 15.36 TB NVMe devices. They are candidates for VM backup and fast restore; IOPS, latency, RAID/mirror layout, immutable policy and tool compatibility are verified with representative restore tests.
Use cases
**1) Disaster recovery (DR):** Eligible cPanel, VPS or dedicated workloads can use planned replication to a separate failure domain. Frequency, data-centre separation, encryption, RPO/RTO and recoverability are verified through testing; a second copy alone is not a continuity guarantee.
**2) Ransomware Resilience:** Separate credentials, access controls and a suitable immutable-snapshot policy reduce the risk of backup alteration. Recoverability is verified through regular restore tests.
**3) Video / Media Archive:** STOR options are capacity candidates for large video, podcast and photo archives. Actual cost per TB is calculated in the quote from usable capacity, RAID overhead, traffic and management fees.
**4) Retention policy:** Retention periods must be determined from the data type, processing purpose, contract and applicable law. A backup plan does not make that decision by itself; capacity, deletion, access and restore rules are configured against a documented policy.
**5) Database / VM backup:** Compatibility with tools such as Veeam, Acronis, Proxmox Backup Server, BorgBackup, Restic, Bacula or rsync is confirmed against the selected operating system, protocol and licence. SSH, NFS, SMB or S3-compatible endpoints are provided only when included in the quote.
