How to Disable Autofill Suggestions on macOS Safari (Keep Google Suggestions Enabled)

Overview

Safari on macOS shows suggestions from multiple sources including browser history, Safari suggestions, and search engines like Google. If you want to remove unwanted domain autofill suggestions while keeping Google search suggestions active, you need to configure both AutoFill and Search settings correctly.

1. Disable Safari AutoFill (Forms and Saved Data)

  • Open Safari
  • Go to Settings
  • Click the AutoFill tab
  • Disable all options:
    • Using information from my contacts
    • User names and passwords
    • Credit cards
    • Other forms

This prevents Safari from filling forms automatically, but does not stop URL suggestions.

2. Configure Search Settings (Important)

  • Go to Safari Settings
  • Open the Search tab
  • Apply the following configuration:

  • Include search engine suggestions → ENABLED
  • Include Safari Suggestions → DISABLED
  • Enable Quick Website Search → DISABLED
  • Preload Top Hit in the background → DISABLED

This setup keeps Google suggestions active while disabling Safari’s own domain and history-based suggestions.

3. Clear Safari History (Required Step)

Even after disabling settings, previously stored suggestions will still appear.

  • Open Safari
  • Click History
  • Select Clear History
  • Choose all history

Alternatively, remove specific entries:

  • Go to History → Show All History
  • Search for the domain (e.g., bursabilisim)
  • Delete all matching entries

4. Understanding the Difference

  • Search engine suggestions → come from Google (you keep this enabled)
  • Safari suggestions → come from Safari and browsing history
  • AutoFill → fills forms, not search bar

Most unwanted suggestions are caused by browsing history, not AutoFill.

5. Final Result

With this configuration:
  • Google search suggestions will continue working
  • Safari domain suggestions will be removed
  • Form autofill will be disabled

This is the cleanest setup for users who want control without losing search convenience.
